Manoa Trip Blog Days 6-7

07/09/10  8:29 AM  Posted by CMS Admin

Well, here is the final trip blog for this trip. Thank you for checking in and thank you for sending some comments to your team. It really helped them know that people back home were supporting their trip and care about what they are doing.

Yesterday was a fantastic day and a day full of opportunities to look to our God. After spending the morning and afternoon cleaning the area in preparation for Metro Kids and conducting summer camp we jumped into the introduction of Metro Kids at the other end of town.

The night was fantastic. We had approx. 20 kids and adults join us from the community. They enjoyed Kevins message, face painting, bubbles, games and hotdogs.

Our evening was capped off with one of our new friends beginning a relationship with Jesus. We also had two men from the community stop by that are now excited to visit Street Church this coming Sunday. Please pray for them that they would make this church their home and become the men that God wants them to be.

Our final day will be spent baking cookies and writing letters for the area police and fire fighters. In the past, this has been such and encouragement to them as well as a wonderful connection to this church.

We will also be wrapping up summer camp with snacks and movies and games and God's love.

Please pray that this team would continue to hold on to the Savior once this trip is over. Please pray that they continue to be the family that they are now. And please pray that they will share His love as all opportunities come up.

Manoa Trip Blog Day 5

Hey Everyone,
Thank you again for checking in and please encourage others in your family and church family to check in to see how the team is doing. Also, encourage your friends and family to send comments in to be passed on to the team. They love hearing from you.

Today was a full day of ministry. The team started by finishing up a few details on their painting project and preparing for Metro Kids this evening. It looks like the team has come up with some wonderful ideas for the 40 or so kids that will be joining us tonight.

Needless to say we are all a little concerned at how good Danny looks dressed as an older lady. Ask him about his role as Old Lady Grace.

Camp went well this afternoon. Your team has done such a fantastic job loving the children that have been coming. They are focusing their attention on them and working so hard to share God's love.

As this blog is being written Kevin is sharing with his group about God's grace through the feeding of the 5 loaves and 2 fish and Carli, no e, sharing the Gospel through the wordless book. I wish you were all hear to hear what I have the honor to hear right now.

Please pray that your team will continue to die to their desires and pursue God's desires. Please pray that God will continue to keep us save. And please pray that we will all leave this trip more like Jesus.

This was probably the most trying day so far for the team, they were faced with a challenge when they went to their morning outreach. The space they were supposed to paint was way more than they had expected and was overwhelming, the team was stretched beyond measure today and they survived!!! The evening was spent participating in Feed My Sheep a food ministry that serves the homeless, single moms and working poor of the community, at the end of the evening the team spent a few hours planning MetroKidz, the kids program at Charm City Church. The team is so excited to share their skits, talks and games they've prepared! Check back tomorrow for some awesome pictures and stories!

Manoa Trip Blog Day 3

The team spent the morning in the community, inviting kids to summer camp. They took a walk through the community met some more of the local kids, after lunch was the first day of summer camp. About 20 kids showed up for camp, the team shared with neighborhood kids, about how amazing God's creation is, and how he made us all special. The theme of camp this week is "Stepping up and Going Green for Jesus."

The evening time we joined our Host Director and a few members of Charm City church to do outreach in a neighborhood in East Baltimore, near street church. The team knocked on doors and invited the kids to a program they'll be presenting in Old Town Mall for the local kids on Thursday evening. On the way home the team stopped and paid a visit to Raven, the little girl who they prayed for earlier in the week. They spent some time loving her and her family. The team ended the night enjoying snowballs from a local snowball stand.

The team woke up early to go to Street Church at Old Town Mall, this is an outdoor church that the host ministry hosts every Sunday Morning, its service that serves the homeless, prostitutes and working poor in East Baltimore. The church attendees are served coffee and doughnuts, loved on and experience a real Gospel message. This particular week church members decide to take a prayer walk through the community. On this walk the team members met a homeless lady, that Colleen (our host director) met five years ago, it was the first time they had seen each other in two years. After the reunion, we all linked arms and prayed for Ms. Pamela and her boyfriend Victor. After street church the team went back to join Charm City Church for their worship service.

The team had the opportunity to spend sometime planning out their week of summer camp in the afternoon before they headed out to enjoy some fireworks for the evening.

The team arrived at Charm City Church in Baltimore on Saturday evening, immediately greeted by their host director for the week; the team was told they would be participating in a "Murder Walk." A little unsure about what they might be getting into the team set off, for the walk. As the team walked through the neighborhood, they got a taste of what real life is like in this neighborhood. Colleen shared with the team at four sites about each of the people who were murdered. As the team walked through the neighborhood, they met local kids and families. The group ended their walk at a site where a five year old girl had been shot in the head the summer before, however her story was a miracle. She survived and is now a member of the host ministries kid program that the team will be participating in later in the week.
